Snow Day

We have a lot of snow here today.  I'm still deciding if I like snow or not.

I have a snazzy red jacket that helps me from getting lost since my fur blends right into the snow.

My Mom and I went for a walk in the snow...it was fun for a bit, but my feet got cold and I was glad to head back home.
Heading up the hill to the house.

It started to snow hard on the way back and I was glad to be home so I could take a nap on my cozy couch.

Can we please go inside now?

Here's a cool video of me in action!

One of my biggest fans...

One of my best blog followers is my sister, Clio.  She spends a lot of time on the computer...literally.  She loves to lay on the laptop because it's nice and warm like a heating pad.  She is super fluffy and very mellow.  She was adopted, along with her sister Maddie, about 13 years ago.  They were abandoned, along with their kitty mom, when their original family moved and left them all behind.  Mom & Dad found a good home for the mom and decided to keep the kittens - who have now grown into very large, lazy cats!  I like my cat siblings.  I especially like playing chase with them.  Apparently they don't really like that game.  I am told I'm not supposed to chase the cats, but sometimes I just can't help myself.

Best Buddy

Meet my best friend, Buddy.  He is my neighbor and we love to go on walks together.  He has shown me all the best spots to sniff and pee on the trail since I moved here.  Today was super exciting because Buddy ran down the trail after a deer...seems the deer was much faster than Buddy.  My Mom held onto my collar because she and Buddy's Mom weren't sure what it was at first.  She was making sure it wasn't a cougar...something about her not wanting me to end up being a snack.  It was a great day for a trail walk!  The sun was out, and there were tons of pee-mails to check.  I can't wait until my next walk with Buddy...he's the best!  Everyone should have a best Buddy.

Me & Buddy checking our pee-mails on the trail.

We love our treat breaks!!  Yum.

Bone Apetit

There are many things I love, but my Mom's homemade food - "Spot's Stew" - is at the top of the list.  I'll be frank, I love to eat!  I was kind of particular when I first arrived at my new home. I had only eaten scraps or roadkill before being rescued, so I wasn't too sure about good food...it didn't take long to figure out I loved it.  I know it's 'Stew Day' when Mom gets the big stockpot out of the pantry...I immediately park myself in the kitchen and watch the magic unfold.  Mom says I'm a really good helper...I clean up anything that falls on the floor, it's hard work, but I'm always up to the task.  As you can see from the pictures, there are a lot of steps in making the stew and it's really hard to be patient, especially when the house starts smelling sooooo good.  My favorite part is when the chicken is all done cooking in the pot and Mom pulls all the meat off the bones...this is when my siblings and I really pour on the charm...Mom can't resist giving us some chicken pieces!  After such a long day of stew making and eating the final product, it's time for a nap.  Recipe is posted below - Bone Apetit!

Chopping the veggies...I love the carrot pieces and today
I ate a frozen pea...it was weird.

Oats, rosemary & kelp powder added...ready to bring to a
simmer for 2 hours.

Oh boy!  Chicken is done...Minnie and I are official taste
testers (Oscar is napping, he missed out this time).

Final product after mixing with a hand blender (Mom makes
it extra soupy so my brother Oscar can eat it  - he only has
one tooth).
All ready for the fridge and freezer.

I always sit like a lady before getting my food.
I can't wait to EAT!
Whew...that was hard work, time for a nap.
RECIPE
Spot's Chicken Stew
From "The Whole Pet Diet" by Andi Brown
*I use a 5 lb. chicken and double the rest of the ingredients in the following recipe. It usually makes enough for about 1 1/2 weeks for 3 small dogs.

2 1/2 lbs whole chicken or turkey (bones, organs, skin and all)
1 cup green peas (I use frozen)
1 cup coarsely chopped carrots
1/2 cup coarsely chopped sweet potato
1/2 cup corasely chopped zucchini
1/2 cup coarsely chopped yellow squash
1/2 cup coarsely chopped green beans (I use frozen)
1/2 cup coarsely chopped celery
1 Tbl. kelp powder
1 Tbl. dried rosemary
11 to 16 cups springwater
8 ounces whole barley
6 ounces rolled oats

Combine all ingredients in a 10-quart stockpot (stainless steel is best) with enough water to cover.  Bring to a boil, then turn down the heat as low as possible and simmer for 2 hours.  Remove from heat, put whole chicken on platter to let cool.  Once it is cooled, debone the chicken - be careful to NOT get any bones in the stew!  With an electric hand mixer, or using a food processor (working in batches), blend all ingredients into a nice puree; the stew should be slightly thick.  Refrigerate what you need for three days and freeze the rest.

Serving size:
These are guidelines, amounts will vary depending on age, activity level, etc.

Dog's Weight             Total Daily Portion
Up to 10 lbs.    -      1 to 1 1/2 cups a day
11 to 20 lbs.     -      2 to 3 cups a day
21 to 40 lbs.     -      4 cups a day

Puppy Love

Happy Valentine's Day!  This is my adopted sister Minnie, she is a rescue too.  She only has two legs, but that doesn't slow her down at all - she definitely rules the roost around here.  She's kind of barky and doesn't really like to play with other dogs, but she's really cute and sometimes she sniffs my ears.

Hoping all of you get lots of treats from your Valentine!  Woof.

Got blankets?

I love Sundays.  After eating a yummy breakfast I get to go in the car with my Dad to get the Sunday paper and then settle on the couch for a lazy day of naps on fuzzy blankets with some of my siblings.

From Mexico with love...

You may be wondering how I got here...my story starts in Mexico.  I was a skinny stray who had recently given birth to a litter of pups and was looking for food (roadkill) on a busy road. I was rescued from the scary streets by an angel named Shar, my puppies were never found.  Shar was determined to find me a loving home and not put me in a Mexican Animal Shelter.  Luckily my Mom & Dad received an email about me and my situation, and decided to adopt me! (must have been the adorable photos that were sent).  I flew on a plane with my “Rescue Angel”, Shar to Denver for the first leg of my trip and then I was put on a plane all by myself headed to Seattle to meet my new family.  I was scared, but I knew I was on to bigger and better things and fell in love with my new Mom & Dad the moment I met them!  It's now been almost 1 year since I came to live in the Pacific Northwest with my new Mom & Dad and all my rescue cat & dog siblings.  Life is good!
Arriving in Seattle
